// If one were to give an account of all the doors one has closed and opened,
of all the doors one would like to re-open,
one would have to tell the story of
one’s entire life.
Gaston Bachelard, La poétique de l’espace, La dialectique du dehors et du dedans
From one island to another, from the sleep room to the gathering room, from the
eating room to the bathroom, from the working room
to the revolution room, there
are always passages. They are not necessarily straight, but specifically transitional
parts, boundaries, links and spaces.
Those are transitions is a spatial experimentation about how a material can be adapted
to each functional space: how could we use bamboo poles
to create an acclimatisation
to work, and to rest? How can it take shape between a positive common
space - the eating room - and a two-in-one
space joining a cafeteria and the revolution room +?
This intervention between the containers leads us to sculpte the transitions as compositions
in a vernacular spirit. Like modeling a shack embodying the containers, creating a
skin around them. A certain way to guide the subject to gradual
in order to fit his state of mind according to the use he will be giving to a space.
+ The revolution room is a fundamental space of the community. It is an
off-space. A place of metaphysical thinking,
which leads, sometimes, to acts of
rebellion. They build the citizen organisation of the community as well.
